It was a little bit embarrassing when my Mum took this photo but now it’s come in handy.
I loved my two years as game-day MC for the Central Pulse in the ANZ Premiership, highlighted by the 2018 final and hosting the after match presentations on live TV.
As ground announcer, I ran all crowd activations, pre-game and in-game announcements over the stadium PA, building crowd energy and atmosphere. I needed to adhere to strict event timings for TV requirements and played a key role in ensuring event run sheets were satisfied.
The principal sponsor, Te Wānanga o Raukawa, held me to high standards for using Te Reo where possible, including a pre-game mihi and correct pronunciation at all times.
This work fuelled my enjoyment for MC-ing, and lead to further work at Silver Ferns tests, Wellington Phoenix games and a Rugby League World Cup quarter final.
